Living Well with Pain

Partner Event
Date: Thursday, 17 October 2019 10:00 - 13:30

Venue: Colin Community Hub

Living with chronic pain can make you anxious, frustrated and angry, tensing your muscles, which can add to your pain. You might have difficulty with sleeping and conducting day-to-day activities, which can leave you feeling even more frustrated and anxious, leading to low mood, tiredness and fatigue.

Living Well With Pain can help you to break this cycle.

What will I learn?

You will learn simple techniques to help you deal with everyday problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation and poor sleep. You will also discover how to prioritise and plan activities and deal with setbacks.

How does it work?

Two leaders who live with pain themselves deliver the workshops. They have been 'in your shoes' and know exactly how you feel. The setup is very informal and there is no study involved. You will be in a group of around 12 people , all of whom live with chronic pain. The workshops run for 2 1/2 hours a week over 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the programme.

Why should I do it?

Living with chronic pain can feel like an endless stream of appointments with GPs, specialists, physio, OT and other Health Professionals. In reality, someone living with chronic pain spends, on average, just 12 hours a year with Health Care Professionals. This means you are left to manage the other 364 days by yourself.

Research shows that people who take part in a self-management programme experience less pain, depression, fatigue and anxiety than before. Within a year, you could be making fewer visits to your doctor and using your new found self-management skills to live life to the full.
